About Us

The full committee is open to all General Dental Practitioners who work under the NHS in West Sussex. Providers and performers are eligible to join. The executive committee is made up of 6 members  including the Chair, the Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.  The LDC meets four times per annum in full session, with a further six executive committee meetings throughout the year. Eligible practitioners may attend full meetings by prior arrangement as invitees, in addition to which there is an AGM open to all, which is usually held in November. We welcome input both at this meeting and also via e-mail to the executive.

Chair
Toby Hancock

I am currently the chairman of West Sussex LDC. I have been previously been the secretary for 5 years and a member for 10 years. I qualified from Guy’s Hospital in 2000 and spent my post graduate years undertaking the Royal College membership examinations for surgery and general practice. I have worked in the emergency dental services (EDS) throughout the county for the last 12 years, I am the EDS advisor for the south of the county and continue to support the service as a whole. I work in Chichester as a full time general practitioner and when I am not at work, I have a young family and we enjoy spending time walking our dog and growing our own vegetables.

Treasurer
Matt Botha

I qualified in 1991 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.  In 1992 I joined a NHS practice in Danbury, Essex as an associate and in 1997 settled in West Sussex, when I bought my practice in Crawley.
I joined the West Sussex LDC shortly after and have been a member ever since. I am also a Dental Practice Adviser to the Surrey & Sussex Local Area Team for NHS England. The NHS has been ever changing since 2005 when I became DPA. Hopefully I can have a positive and fair influence on some of the changes in my role as DPA and LDC member.
In my spare time my family and I are devoted to our passion for exploring remote places, normally in deserts, climbing mountains in the summer and skiing down them in the winter.

Secretary
Agi Tarnowski

I qualified in Cardiff in 1997, after which I stayed in Wales for my VT and GPT, as a SHO in the Hospital and Community. After all that rain I was drawn to the land down under for some challenges in rural Oz.  On my return to the UK I worked in Practice and when the PDS clinics started I joined the team in West Sussex in Horsham and stayed there many years.  Now my time is split between Special Care Dentistry and General Practice in Cuckfield, were I am a dentist with a special interest in Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics.  I gained my MFGDP in 2004, and stayed with the FGDP to complete a Diploma (2009) and then MSc in Restorative dentistry (2011).

I have been a member of West Sussex LDC since 2007 and joined the executive committee as secretary in 2012, as an associate and a salaried dentist with some experience of providing somewhat difficult treatments and treating somewhat difficult patients I hope I bring a different perspective to the LDC.

I originally graduated in South Africa in 2000 and have been practising in the UK as a General Dental Practitioner from September of that year. I am also a provider at dental practices in Crawley and Brighton.  I joined the West Sussex LDC in 2011 and have found it to be a very rewarding experience. I find it really interesting to be at the forefront of the extra-clinical side of NHS dentistry, especially during these challenging periods of change. I have 3 young children that keep me very busy outside dentistry.  I also enjoy playing football although the years have certainly caught up to me!!

I joined the West Sussex LDC as I believe it is better to have your say when things are happening rather than just watching them happen.
I qualified from the University of Athens, in 1991. This was followed by a diploma in Implants-Biomaterials in 1996, PG qualification in mentoring in dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS England) and an MSc in Endodontics from the Queen Mary College, University of London (QMUL).
I share my working days between practices in West Sussex and London, the Royal London Hospital and teaching endodontics at The Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL.

I qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Dental School in 2009. Since qualification I worked in numerous NHS practices in Kent before settling in Crawley, West Sussex. I joined the West Sussex LDC in April 2013 to become more involved in the political side of dentistry. Additionally, I currently work for the Emergency Dental Service in Crawley and Haywards Heath, which I find very rewarding. Outside of dentistry, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter.
