Local guidance for conditions in which over-the-counter medicines should not routinely be prescribed in primary care

August 29, 2018

NHS England published its final guidance in March 2018; “Conditions for which over the counter items should not routinely be prescribed in primary care” following a public consultation on the prescribing of over the counter (OTC) medicines. It is estimated that this new guidance could release as much as £136 million across England each year to reinvest in other services. To find out more please look at links below. Information for patients, including posters and leaflets, is available to download. You can also download a template for a ‘self-care referral’ letter which can be used to direct patients to their local pharmacy.
